New 3G BlackBerry 8707v

by Robb Dunewood on March 24, 2006

Research in Motion is about to release a new device in the UK called the BlackBerry 8707v that will run on Vodafone’s 3G highspeed broadband network. Unfortunately it will be a few years before such a device would be offered in the United States.

I wonder if there will be any addition multimedia features soon to follow becasue all that speed is kind of a waste if you are just using it on sending and receiving email and web browsing.

Microsoft Origami: Don’t believe the hype…

by Robb Dunewood on March 8, 2006

So I am looking at this new Origami device that I cannot for the life of me imagine how Microsoft is going to spin into the next must have device of the 21st century. It looks like half of a tablet PC without the keyboard. Some have even positioned it as the next BlackBerry Killer but with no cellular connectivity there is no way that it can stand up to the claim.

Samsung will introduce the first Origami device tomorrow at CeBit and they are calling it the Samsung Q1.

The Q1 will include:

  • 900MHz Intel Celeron Processor
  • 500MB of RAM
  • 802.11 A /G wireless connection
  • Bluetooth
  • Windows XP

The question that I have is since Origami devices aren’t small enough to put in your pocket, what is the compelling reason to get one of these instead of just getting a Tablet notebook?

Ipod Killer

by Robb Dunewood on January 4, 2006

Samsung is unveiling a new MP3 player called the YP-Z5 that many are calling an “Ipod Killer“. The devices has a 2 to 4 GB hard drive and a 1.8 inch screen. It is just a little bit bigger than the Nano but, has video.

The new device will be unveiled at CES this week. If Samsung really wants the YP-Z5 to be an “Ipod Killer”, they really need to come up with a better name. YP-Z5 sounds like some broke down droid from Star Wars.

T-Mobile BlackBerry 7105t

by Robb Dunewood on October 3, 2005

It looks like T-Mobile, the first carrier to bring you a 71xx series candybar style BlackBerry, will be the first to bring you the next version of the 71xx series, the Blackberry 7105t. Rumor has it that the new 7105t could be announced as early as today and available in stores by October 10th.

The BlackBerry 7105t looks similar to the 7100t with subtle color differences. The 7105t will sport a better screen that makes it easier to see in sunlight and have contoured keys. The call and end call buttons are notibly larger as well.
